TRIATHLON AUSTRALIA FINANCIAL REPORTING

Further to last week’s post in which I highlighted the fact that TA Employee benefits and contractor expenses have risen by approximately 900% in the last 10 years, as well as the fact SportAus funding has increased by approximately 135% over the last 5 years, we are hearing from many Elite, under 23 and Junior athletes that the level of support provided by TA is decreasing significantly.

Unfortunately, due to the vagueness and possibly incomplete financial reporting by TA, we cannot confirm whether this last part, i.e. whether the decline in spending on Australian u.23 and Junior triathletes (as well as other members) is in fact true.

From the vague information provided in the 2020 financial report, it would appear TA may not have complied with all the mandatory requirements of the relevant Australian Accounting Standards, which require TA to disclose the nature and extent of Government Grants received. It is important to know this as understanding the nature and extent of each grant will explain where this money was spent. We may well be incorrect in our suspicions, but until we know more information, we can only go on what TA has provided us.

Therefore in an attempt to gain a better insight into where TA is receiving it's funding, and therefore spending members’ and taxpayers funds, today I emailed TA CEO, TA President and TA’s auditor, to request further financial and other information, which is required by the relevant legislation, yet to this date, has not been made available to us.

I will keep you posted on TA’s response and willingness to provide this information.
